Notes

*Esther Dyson describes cyberspace as a new virtual world where people have freedom to explore, express, and connect.

* In the past, it was used mainly by computer experts, but now people of  all age groups use it.

* She compares cyberspace to “virtual real estate” with different types of websites – some free, some private, and some unsafe.

* There are misconceptions that cyberspace traps children or spreads offensive content, but users have the freedom to choose what they see.

* The key idea is that cyberspace is based on individual freedom and self-control.

* It allows private communication, access to information, and forming of online communities.

* These communities have their own rules, and people can join or leave them freely.

* Dyson concludes by saying cyberspace is not perfect, but it offers freedom with responsibility.
